Sweetie lost her first baby tooth!

She was really worried about the big step closer to being a certified Big Kid. We had many heartbreaking conversations leading up to it… mostly over the unknown amount of blood expected. We tried to tell her it would only be enough for her gums to clean the spot, and much less than a scraped knee. I think a lot of the worry though was just that step into the unknown.
She immediately wanted to call Grammy and Poppa. She was able to tell Poppa all about it.

Now we just have to get the other bottom tooth out. It’s just as loose as that one, and it’s leaning into the open spot because she wiggles it back and forth and side-to-side, but we’re not rushing her too much. It will probably come out tomorrow. Unfortunately, her permanent teeth decided they didn’t want to wait and cut up through behind her baby teeth. If the other two bottom teeth don’t come out by her next dentist appointment in August, the dentist is going to pull them.

The big tooth directly above the one she lost is also starting to wiggle a bit. Soon she’ll be my snaggled-tooth little girl. Quickly becoming a big girl!
Yay! My Thursday night Co-ed Team Media360.com won the Rec League Championship game tonight 19-9!
I went 4-4 (whew!) and they had a couple of bad innings (luckily we had our bad inning in the first and they only scored 5).
A couple of our guys were a little tense at the beginning – nerves I guess – but settled down and we did quite nicely.
Autumn and Amanda from that team are joining my competitive women’s team and we’re headed down to the Redneck Riviera (Panama City Beach) tomorrow for a tournament.
Unfortunately because of work, we’re driving down getting there late tomorrow night and playing ball all day Saturday. If we’re lucky we’ll get to see the beach Sunday morning before turning around and making the 5 hour drive home.
Mark Twain said: “When I was a boy of fourteen, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be twenty-one, I was astonished at how much he had learned in seven years.”
I find this to be one of the truest statements ever made. My parents’ learning leap happend a little later than Mr. Twain’s, but the leap was astonishing, and continues to this day. The older I get, the smarter my parents become.
Monday brought more rain – yes!

I guess we’re not used to it, because a lot of people were not prepared.

(you can barely see the three people trying to huddle under one tiny umbrella)
Did it rain here on Friday?!?!
And, hope among hope, will it rain here again today?

Holy cow! With only 8 players (8!) we won 20-18 for our first victory in the competitive league! We were home, and they scored 3 in the top of the 1st and we answered back with 13!
Amanda – lead-off – batted 3 times in the 1st, it was great!
We then played ok – they figured out how to hit the gap a few times, but otherwise, they didn’t even try to hit the holes. When a girl came up to bat, Amanda would come in from right field to play 2nd base — we’d have a left field and center and zero right field, and they didn’t hit to right a single time. When the guys batted we’d have Eric play 1st if no one was on base, and then play 2nd if there was.
I got one ball at 3rd all night. The 2 really good hits I had were caught and the 3 not so good got through. It happens.
But it was great!
We started off with pizza at Marrieta Pizza Co. with slices.

We then walked around and window shopped, but most stores had closed at 5pm.
We strolled on down to Sweet Treats for some ice cream.

We finished by strolling through the center of the square. The fountain was dry because of the water restrictions, but it was still nice.

We won the first handily — 19-7, but then faced Birmingham Extreme – they used to be B class, but dropped to C this year, like so many other teams. We only lost 12-8 and were disappointed in losing but felt good we held with them so long.
But since this was a big tournament, losing meant we immediately played again, against the All Stars – a team out of South Carolina. We were winning up until the 4th, but we had a couple of bad innings and went into the 6th down by 9. We got a couple but not enough and went out to shake hands. We were putting our stuff up and getting ready to leave when the umpires called us back out — there was still time left (how we will never know). But these umps had been really inconsistent through both games, so ok, we’ll go back in the field. They scored 2 bringing it back to 9, and we couldn’t do anything in the bottom of the 7th and lost 24-15.
We talked with a girl from another team that has been C for a few years and she said their first game was against a team out of North Carolina, and the lead off batter to start the game hit one over the fence. That doesn’t happen in C ball – it just doesn’t.
It was cloudy the whole time but still a little hot. Would like some rain today, boy do we need it.
