I love my Jeep – it is “the awesome.”  But gas prices have forced me to look at ways to lower my costs.

My daily commute is about 32 miles.  With the old me, that was 2 gallons a day.  At today’s costs, it would be $8 a day, or $160 a month just for gas.

CNN had an article about the myths of saving gas and mentioned that the best way to improve your gas mileage was to slow down.  What?!? Oh noes!

The first tank of the experiment wasn’t much of an improvement… I was still adjusting to my newer, kinder, gentler, “omg I’m going so slow!” way of life.  But the second tank of gas actually improved 3 mpg over the last 2.   That saves me $25 a month!  Think of all the beer that buys!

The weather has been nice — I think the top has been up maybe 4 days over the last 2 months.  I’m slowing down and smelling the gardenias… and the natural gas and sewage and road kill, but nevermind that… but it’s becoming nice.

I’m slowly getting used to going slow.  Now, if I look down and haven’t been thinking of my speed, I’m going about 62 mph, or about 10-15 mph slower than my old cruising speed.

I kind of like life in the slow lane.  Going 15 mph slower adds 3 minutes to my commute.  Three more minutes of enjoying the outdoors, the clear blue skies, and the bird song.  I definitely like that!

Driving back from lunch with Glenn’s cousin and his wife, my dashboard read:

Baseball is starting up.  Softball schedules are being emailed out.  The kids are losing teeth on such a regular basis that the Tooth Fairy may rent out the spare room (Buddy is starting his molars, Sweetie is moving to remainder of front teeth).  Twee’s top came down last Sunday for a wonderful sunny ride about town.  Yep.  Spring is in the air — and in my sinus cavity.

Buddy, Sweetie and I hit some balls on Sunday, but they only had baseball.  They both hit 40mph, and did ok, considering they’ve only been twice, and I hit 40 and 50mph, and did ok, considering I’ve never played fast pitch in my life.  The 60mph button was dark, and I chickened out going for 70mph.  Maybe next time.  And, I hit with my 30 ounce softball bat, so yay me!

I’ve got my Women’s C Team schedule up as well as my Atlanta Ad League schedule, although until we get all the interested teams in and the league drawn up, I won’t know opponents or times until later.  I hope we can bounce back from the sad short season we had this past fall.

I’ve changed my desktop picture to a more seasonal theme.  This great blog I’ve just found – Shorpy - has some incredible high definition pictures.  Just amazing stuff.  I think I’m getting the mlb.com package for my birthday, so I’m really getting into the baseball frame of mind.

And on a totally unrelated to the rest of this post, we surprised the kids and took them to the circus 2 weekends ago.  Through pulled strings of our CRO’s exec admin Kim B. (rock on, Kim!) we got seats in the VIP Suite our company owns.  It was a nice surprise for them, and 2 bags of cotton candy (with 2 hats), 2 souvenir sports bottles of lemonade, and 1 spinny toy later, we were $62 poorer (yes!), but a happy family.

I hope I’m good at balancing out my kharma.  It seems I am.

For instance, I try to not be mean-spirited (which has ticked off the planners of mischief more than once).  Also, I try really hard not to parking lot troll.  I will NOT follow someone down a lane, or park and wait for them as they just walk up to their car with their cart (unless it’s the last place in the lot).

To balance those out, I (so far) rarely have pranks pulled on me – or at least mean-spirited ones, and I have really good parking kharma.  I get the 2nd or 3rd spots way more than normal.  Or at least it seems that way.

That’s the kooky thing about kharma.  It’s good or bad kharma when you notice it — when “it seems that way.”

The act of buying a convertible in Atlanta has brought more rain in the past 3 weeks than we saw all summer.

But, it’s good that we’re getting rain — we are still way short of where we should be.  So maybe it seems like this is good kharma, right?

Maybe I should have bought a Jeep at the beginning of the summer, and we wouldn’t be in our drought now!

It seems that way, as I walk out to the deck to put my top up before I drive home.

After driving the same car for 10 years, I purchased a new Jeep Wrangler Monday night.

My little Honda CRV (bless its heart) has 183K and has been a great little car.  But I’ve wanted a Jeep since, well, for at least 5 or 6 years now.  And I love, love LOVE it!

I was 8 months pregnant with Buddy when I traded in my Geo Tracker (which was a Jeep wanna-be, but all I could afford at the time).  I haven’t driven a straight shift since then, so almost 10 1/2 years.  When we got in the Jeep for a test drive, I told the salesman and the kids (in the back seat with Sweetie yelling “Can we buy this one Momma?”) ”No laughing, now.”

I only bounced us around once or twice switching between 2nd and 3rd, and I’ve only konked out 5 or 6 times since I brought it home.

Now I just need to name it.  Right now I have Twee, but that doesn’t really match too much, because I love this jeep, and twee is not always meant in a good way.

I pulled into the driveway the first night, and then had to resist the urge to peek out the window every 10 minutes or so, to make sure it was still ok.
